“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” C.S. Lewis

This is the problem with the new, proposed section 3(4) in the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic). With the greatest of intent, we are about to chain ourselves into an unscientific merry go round of lockdowns that are now being discredited by mainstream infectious disease epidemiologists like Professor Mark Woolhouse.

Update
I’ve been advised by an MP that the Andrews Labor Government has included this new sub-section to ‘protect’ Victoria when it has no cases but other neighbouring states might have many cases. This is to allow lockdowns and other measures to continue to prevent COVID-19 re-entering the state.
